This workshop will include multitude of topics surrounding the LGBTQQA community. What are the terms we use?  How do we use them correctly, effectively and non-offensively?  What questions to ask? Discussion will also include how critical it is to know that the current generation of LGBTQQA youth are "not our parent’s gays”.  There is a very different culture in existence right now than what it was even 10 years ago, and the legalization of gay marriage alone is a huge indicator.  We will then demonstrate that the needs of the LGBTQQA population are in general not very different from the needs of any other marginalized group.  Diversity is diversity, and we will examine the need for diversity in all areas of our campuses and addressing intersectionality as it relates to diversity and inclusion in our communities.

Students usually ask questions of professors which seek information—who, what, where, etc. In this workshop you’ll be encouraged to think bigger with your questions which will yield an entirely different dialogue.  Asking better questions can get you noticed by professors and your peers in student organizations—they reveal you as a leader. And these techniques aren’t
limited to the classroom—they can help you stand out in admissions, employment and internship interviews also.

The popular definition of disability portrays people with disabilities as less than capable because of their differences or impairments. The truth, however, is that most people with disabilities are just as capable as those without; it is the environment we create for ourselves that disables people. In this workshop, participants will experience what it is like to be disabled by their environment, and learn what it means to create an open and accessible atmosphere that gives equal footing to people with all sorts of physical and intellectual abilities. Through activities, discussion, and instruction, participants will learn how to emphasize another person’s ability, whatever their disability.

The presentation will begin with an introduction to the conceptual framework for Cultural Intelligence (CQ). We will examine the three basic facets involved in developing CQ-cognitive, motivational, and behavioral. Topics for this presentation will include the complexities of intercultural communication in our daily lives, the importance of cultural self-identity and cultural filters, power and privilege and their impact on perceptions, and
identifying ways to become an agent for social and equitable change that will support SUCCESS for ALL.

Sure, you may share the same organizational vision but what about the same race, religion, or sexual orientation? This workshop will offer effective strategies for embracing diversity, culture, and change in the
communities that make up our personal and professional lives.

Millennials have entered the workforce! Their knowledge, experiences, and attitudes can have both positive and negative impact on their transition into a well-established workplace. During this session we will laugh about our past experiences and what was “cool” when we were growing up. We will talk about the 6 living generations, how they have impacted the work place, and their work styles.  We will review the perceptions of millennials, the kind of impact that millennials can have in the work place, and some tips for millennials as they established themselves in the workplace.

This highly recommended program will take participants through an active learning process that challenges students to self-identify their role in promoting social justice, creating positive meaning from personal or communal challenges, and helping make the world a better place. This experience is highly interactive and students will ultimately leave with specific action steps and a self-empowered mindset for moving forward and implementing the outcomes from this shared experience. We all want to make the world a better place, but there is a difference between intention and stepping into what you are capable of. You don’t have to take on the world, you just have to start somewhere. This program is meant to further that starting point and advance the personal responsibility of each participant towards what they are capable of.

This workshop will provide you with tips on how to make the LGBTQ community on your campus feel more included. Presenters will provide information on Safe Zone Project training, which aims to increase the awareness, knowledge, and skills for individuals and address the challenges that exist when one wants to advocate for their LGBTQ peers, family members, friends, coworkers and for themselves; and will then open discussion with a panel of LGBTQ staff and students to talk about experiences and answer questions.
